Piraeus Greece is the port of Athens, capital of Greece. Piraeus is the gate to the Greek islands and from here start and end their trip the majority of the ferries connecting island Greece with mainland. Piraeus is also the gate by sea for many cruise ships calling Athens. Piraeus port receives every season hundreds of thousands of passengers and is the 3rd most busy cruise port of Europe.

Piraeus City has a population of 176.000 inhabitants and the "frontiers" with Athens city are not clear anymore. Actually the past years the population's density has rised and Piraeus City limits have merged with the ones of Athens City. The distance between Piraeus port and Athens centre is 10 km (6,2 miles)
